AIGA pre-review & studio tours.

I was apart of the orange group. It consisted of four BYU students and myself. We traveled to Hint Creative, Modern 8, Axis 41, and Infinite Scale Design. It was very interesting to visit different design studios, each one had their own feel.

Hint creative consisted of about 8-9 employees and was located in a small room. I was mostly impressed with some of the clients they have had, such as DC shoes and Areopostale. The main thing I learned from them is they said success is based on your network of environment.

Modern 8 was very different compared to Hint creative. They felt more directed to the product of "thinking" for companies. They stated that you're not getting paid for creating, but rather you should be paid for thinking.

Axis 41 Design was probably my favorite place we went. It consisted of a huge design environment and they stated they had about 61 employees. The atmosphere felt fun and professional and I feel that I would like to work in something like that. An interesting point they made was that potential employers could immediately tell if you are type sensitive by briefly looking at your portfolio. I also thought it was an interesting point that they made of 80% of their work is for online and only 20% is printed.

Infinite Scale Design was the last place we went to and it also was a big design place. The most interesting thing I liked about this place is they have a program where they recycle the posters they have made into products such as bags and backpacks.
